Most Gordigear car awnings can be mounted on common roof rack and railing systems used on SUVs, vans, estates, off-road vehicles and pick-ups. The awning is bolted to the side of the roof rack using suitable mounting brackets. With a little preparation, installation can usually be completed in under an hour. We recommend having a second person assist with the first installation so the awning can be safely aligned and secured.

Unfold the awning, extend the support legs and secure the guy ropes – most models provide shade in under a minute. Adding an awning room takes a little longer, but the well-designed attachment system also makes this setup straightforward and requires no specialist tools.

Remove coarse dirt after every trip and allow the awning and awning room to dry completely before storing them. Clean the canvas only with clear water or a suitable canvas cleaner. Aggressive cleaning products and pressure washers can damage the waterproof treatment and the fabric. Regularly inspect the zips, poles, guy ropes and mounting points for wear. If rainwater no longer beads reliably on the surface, reproof the fabric with a suitable canvas care product.

Robust materials and stable aluminium poles provide reliable protection in windy conditions when the awning is correctly set up and fully secured. In stronger winds, always use all supplied guy ropes and pegs. If storm-force gusts or extreme weather are forecast, the awning should be packed away as a precaution to prevent damage to the awning, vehicle or mounting system.

In an emergency, the awning can be packed away wet for a short period. However, it should be fully opened again as soon as possible so the fabric, poles and accessories can dry thoroughly. Storing the awning while damp for an extended period can cause unpleasant odours, mildew or mould.
