How fast is a hard-shell roof top tent set up?
Most hard-shell roof top tents open in less than 60 seconds. Simply release the latches and the gas struts assist with opening the shell in a controlled manner. This makes hard-shell roof top tents ideal for travellers who frequently change location.
What is the difference between a hard-shell and a hybrid hard-shell tent?
Classic hard-shell roof top tents have a rigid, aerodynamic shell and provide an especially fast setup. Hybrid models such as the Bonito combine a hard shell with a fold-out section. This creates a larger sleeping area while keeping the packed size compact on the vehicle roof.
What is the difference between a wedge tent and a pop-up tent?
A wedge-style tent opens from a hinge along one side of the shell. This design provides excellent wind stability, although the foot area is slightly lower at one end. A parallelogram or pop-up tent rises evenly at all four corners. This creates consistent internal height and provides additional comfort when sitting or changing clothes. What material is the hard shell made from?
The outer shell consists of a robust, multi-layer composite construction. It combines comparatively low weight with high stability and protects the closed roof top tent against rain, wind and UV exposure. The exact material composition may vary depending on the model.
Can I heat my hard-shell roof top tent in cold weather?
Yes. Our hard-shell roof top tents feature an integrated connection for a compatible heater. This makes it easy to prepare the tent for winter camping, cold nights or trips to higher-altitude regions.
How does the opening mechanism work?
High-quality gas struts open the hard shell in a controlled manner with very little physical effort. Lockable latches secure the closed roof top tent while driving. Corrosion-resistant hinges provide reliable operation and help keep maintenance requirements to a minimum.
How is condensation reduced inside the roof top tent?
Strategically positioned ventilation openings provide continuous airflow and help reduce condensation. For a comfortable interior climate, keep the ventilation openings clear and store wet clothing or equipment outside the sleeping area whenever possible.

Will a hard-shell roof top tent fit my vehicle?
The key factors are your vehicle's dynamic roof load, suitable roof racks, the roof shape and the combined weight of the roof top tent and rack system. Many SUVs, estates, vans and pick-ups are suitable for a hard-shell roof top tent. If you are unsure, our team will be happy to help you check vehicle compatibility.
How much weight can my vehicle roof carry while driving?
The permitted dynamic roof load applies while the vehicle is moving and is between 75 and 100 kilograms for many passenger cars and SUVs. The combined weight of the roof top tent and roof rack must not exceed the value stated in the vehicle manual. The static roof load while parked is generally considerably higher and supports the tent, mattress and occupants.
What is the difference between a hard-shell roof top tent and a folding roof top tent?
A hard-shell roof top tent provides especially fast setup, an aerodynamic closed shape, excellent wind stability and robust construction. Folding roof top tents often provide lower weight and a larger sleeping area. Hybrid models such as the Bonito combine the convenience of a hard shell with the additional space of a fold-out roof top tent.
Can I use a hard-shell roof top tent all year round?
Yes. Robust, weather-resistant materials and the stable hard shell provide reliable protection from sun, rain and wind. With a suitable heater and compatible accessories, the roof top tent can also be prepared for winter camping and cold regions.
Can I use a car wash or underground car park with the roof top tent installed?
A hard-shell roof top tent increases the overall vehicle height by approximately 25 to 40 centimetres, depending on the model and roof rack. Always check the actual vehicle height and the stated clearance before entering. Conventional automatic car washes are generally not suitable while a roof top tent is installed.
Will a hard-shell roof top tent fit a smaller vehicle?
Yes. Lightweight two-person models are particularly suitable for small cars and compact vehicles. Estates and saloons also often provide sufficient roof area for medium-sized hard-shell roof top tents. The permitted roof load, roof rack approval and weight of the selected tent must always be considered.
What should I consider for an SUV or off-road vehicle?
SUVs and off-road vehicles often provide excellent conditions for a hard-shell roof top tent. Many models have sufficient roof area, strong roof rack systems and are well suited to travelling away from paved roads. The permitted roof load and the approvals of the vehicle and roof rack manufacturers must still be considered.
